HE’S GOING THE DISTANCE!! I love this song. When I used to work selling pest control door-to-door this was the song my buddies and I would listen to every morning on the way to work to get pumped up. Cake has to be one of the great bands of our time. Their sound is so unique. You always know when it’s a Cake song. ENJOY!

It wasn’t just the fact that I lost, each race that devastated me, it was the fact that I think I may have been dead last.

A few years later with my confidence back,  the cutest girl in my school class asked me to join the Orem Track Club with her.

This wasn’t just a cute girl, it was Jamie Stanworth. She was clearly the most beautiful girl in my entire school… and we were “Going Out.” That term “Going Out” meant in Elementary School that we were an item. But it also meant that I was mostly scared to talk to her.

So for her to invite me into joining up with the Orem track club was like the heavens had opened and light was shining on me. There was no way in the world I would say no. I went home, told my parents I wanted to join the track club and they paid the fees. (My Mom, knowing how slow of a runner I was, must have been thinking I was crazy)

My first practice was very revealing. I had my track shoes on that had the nifty spikes. I could see Jamie’s blond hair being blown in the wind. Life was good.

Jamie came up to me and said we should race. My male mind thought, “I better be easy on her, I don’t want to make her look bad.”  We got set, and some other kid (I don’t remember any of the other kids besides Jamie.) said “On your mark, get set, GO!”

From that point on, all I could see was Jamie’s back. I could see her legs moving so fast that they started to blur. In a moment it was over… well at least for her as she crossed the finish line way before I did. Then a few moments later, I crossed the finish line.

I remember the look on her face.  I could see “You are so slow” written all over it.
My Manhood stood in the balance. I had just been beaten badly by a girl. Not just any girl, but the cutest girl in the school. I could feel that whatever had possessed her to be my girlfriend up until then was quickly leaving her.

I had to do something, and quick. I said, “I think I’ll try the Shot Put”.

Unbelievable!  I don’t care where you like to camp on the political spectrum this kind of stuff MUST go.  No wonder we keep hearing people yell “YOU WORK FOR US” at these town hall meetings.  This guy obviously believes he knows better than all the people he represents.  How many other political conversations like this were not caught on video from both sides of the Isle?

I’m so tired of politicians.  I think it best that we limit every political term to just one.  Then we at least get to flush the toilet of America (government)  more often.

I love football. From the time I was a little kid and just couldn’t seem to get enough of it. I dreamed about being a part of plays just like this one. Heck.. My moms first cousin is Lavell Edwards. I thought just by that alone I would be a part of BYU’s football team by default.

I’m so excited about the season coming up. I really don’t know what’s worse, when the season ends, or the anticipation right now for it to begin again. I think it’s the greatest game ever invented. Basketball, Baseball, Soccer and others are great too. But for me, I want the crisp fall air. I want to hear the sound of helmets crashing. I want to see someone hit so hard that they lose track of which way is up and which way is down.

I want to tailgate. I want to yell as loud as I can at the refs. Most of all… I want the University of Utah to lose.

When they lose it’s better for everyone. When they win, bad things happen like the stock market plummets, the economy crashes, people lose their jobs, and America tilts towards socialized government health care. (As in the case this last year).

I’m ready for change. Change I can believe in. BYU needs to win this year. People need jobs. The economy needs to recover.

This guy is so funny. I mostly play the part of the stupid husband in my marriage. In truth, my wife is way smarter than I am. Also, it’s very true that we usually don’t hang out with other men to talk. In fact, we hang out so we don’t have to talk. We just want to play.

We want to turn off all cares and just enjoy. If a particular subject does come up, fine. But no need to force a conversation!

Can you please tell me what in the world this is all about? Can you believe this? I mean c’mon. This can’t be real? Unfortunately it’s not much different from the attitude of many parents today. The damage that can be done to a child when a child is left completely to themselves when making media choices.

There is a lot of wonderful things on the web, television, magazines, books etc. But just like you wouldn’t drop your 3 year old child off in the middle of a large city and then hope they don’t get hurt in anyway, please don’t leave them alone to navigate their way through the internet or other media.

Media in an of itself is a good thing. It allows us to communicate on a mass scale. However, there are people communicating things that you may not want your child to hear.  And what’s worse, your child is not equipped to sift through the garbage and tell the difference.  It’s been proven that the human brian is not fully mature until you reach the age of 22.  Please don’t think your child can do it all on their own.

And please don’t let your babies play with venomous cobras!
