Sometimes I spend so much time online being an online marketer that the virtual world and the real world intermingle.  However, I’ve recently found a place to go just to unplug and get away. It’s a secluded valley not far from my office that has a huge pond with water foul, horses, cows, green pastureland, and the Wasatch mountains in the background. I like to take lunch breaks here. I usually just stretch out, sit down and take in the quiet beautiful scene. It’s amazing what animals do when they think we are not watching.

The last trip to my secret thinking place had me dirt skiing down the side of the hill that leads to the pond. As I went down the hill, rodents, snakes, ducks, geese, and other birds skirmished away quickly. I then went and found the source of the water was coming from a spring just north of me.

I love this place. Lunch has become a mini-vacation from all things virtual.

So my wife is really into Twilight.  She first got into the books when introduced to them by friends and family.  The thing is, my wife can read REALLY fast.  She read like all four books in two hours… well maybe not that fast but pretty close.  What made me happy was to see her do something she loves to do.  It seemed that when she became a mother her personal motherly sacrifice gene kicked in which made her feel like she had to give up many of the things she loves like reading, poetry, music, and art so she can focus on the kids.  This leads to burn out pretty quickly.

So it was so great to see how this book series kind of resurrected her interests.  Now she reads about 50 books a week  and she  spends a lot of time at the library.  This not only helps her to feel great and happy, but the kids are learning to love books as well.  WIN WIN situation.

Men and Women seem to do the child rearing thing differently.  I think both approaches are important.  In our case, my wife tends to nurture and take care of almost every detail for the kids.

My approach is to do as little as possible and then sit back and watch them grow and figure things out for themselves.  Of course if it were left entirely up to me, our kids would probably fall victim to natural selection.  If it were left up to her, they would be living with us when they are 40.  Sometimes my wife has to remind me that maybe it isn’t a good idea to see if they survive a night in the wild all by themselves next to a pack of wolves.  But other times, I need to remind her that if she will take care of her self first, she will be happy, and since the children largely take their emotional queues from their mother, they will be happy.

Do I care about Edward, Vampires, Teen Love interests etc?  No.  But I’m all about my wife feeling excited and happy to dive into her talents and interests.  When Momma is happy, everyone is happy.

The Bird is the Word

So, I’ve been having fun with Twitter this last week or so.  I used to think it was a waste of time.  However my brother Travis was on there a lot and I enjoyed reading his posts.  Then, I figured out that it could be exploited to help me in my quest for world domination.

Now I see twitter like that bird that sits on the pirate’s shoulder, ever willing to to what the Cap’n says.  All I need to do is feed the bird.

Well, not really.  But Twitter can be tons of fun and a good free way to keep connected, meet new people, and drive traffic to your website. (if you came to this site because of twitter, then you are living proof).

Anyways…
